The aim of the project is to protect the biodiversity in the lake area, which is of internationally recognised importance, and to promote tourism around the lakes.

The various project measures are as follows:

• Improved wastewater collection and treatment to further reduce the nutrients entering the lakes.

• Buffer zones around both lakes, including the establishment of a vegetation strip.

• Cycle paths and birdwatching platforms.

• Biomanipulation of the current fish population: Controlled reduction of crucian carp in Lake Palić to promote autochthonous fauna and flora.
